Day 1 - Today has been pretty hectic so far, getting everything ready before we head off to Plymouth to catch the ferry. It was quite surreal being on the ferry as it was very very big and classy, me and pat watched the ferry leave Plymouth, then we found our seats. (They were very uncomfortable and the motion of the boat on the waves made it all the more worse.) It was also really weird sitting on the back deck of the boat when England had gone and there was just sea all around us. It was quite boring on the ferry itself though we did go for a swim in the pool which was on the top deck, that seemed to sort us out, as the motion of the boat was quite weird. Afterwards we had some dinner on the ferry, it wasn't the best food, but we couldnñt complain really either.
We then walked around the deck, broed and confused by what to do, (also was amazed by the fact that we could see no land only the big blue.) We then sat at teh bar and had a couple of drinks before heading to our seats. There was a big fat man who sat infront of us, and he snored so loundly and he never stopped, also sometimes he would giggle. It was well annoying. Also around 4o'clock in the morning drunk Kiwis (not the fruit but the nationality) came in and made a lot of noise. Natalie managed to sleep through this part whereas Pat had to put up with it. The next morning we got talking to guys who were travelling around Europe for a month like us, but they were cycling!!!!! f*** that! We all had a good b**** about the snoring huy and the Kiwis.
Also in the morning when you went out on the deck, we could see Spain! And there was no clouds!!! that was a good site. But it was annoying when arriving to Spain watching the cars unload first before the foot passengers could. We just wanted to get off.
2 minutes in Spain and Natalie nearly gets run over by a car, she tried to justify herself by saying she looked but that was when Pat reminded her that Spain drive on the other side. This was a lesson to be learnt quickly. We then headed to the nearest information centre to get a map with all the hotels on it. We chose the furest hotel as it was the cheapest and was very close to the beach.
The walk up to the hotel was hot and frustrating, but there was some pretty amazing sites. Eventually we got to the Hotel where the owner spoke no English, so Natalie left it to Pat to try and ask the woman for a room. (using crap spanish and lots of sign-lanuage.)
The room we got was a nice room, but it had no bathroom in it. That was shared with the rest of the hotel. It was quite annoying as the building was 6 stories high and the woman gave us the room right at the top with no lift.
Afterwards we dumped most of our things, and headed straight to the beach, where we applied very little sun creme and got burnt. Pat's was the funniest as he was left with a necklace mark on his chest.
Once back in the hotel room, we decided to go and venture into town to try and get some food. It was impossible, so we settled for a resturant that had an English menu inside. We walked around for a little longerand found some really amazing Graffti.
We headed back to the room, where we stayed for the rest of the night, we began to realise how scary travelling actually is, and we began to feel a little homesick. But the next morning we were both fine again. We also had a little giggling fit about the neighbour and his unsightly G-string.
We headed to the shops to get some breakfast and decided it was a good idea just to chill for the day, so we headed to the other beach where platforms float 50 odd meters from the shore. Natalie insisted on this beach so we headedoff. Only to find ourselves 5 minutes later wandering into a small zoo! Penguins and sea lions were in quite nice enclosures right next to the sea. On e dominant sea lion snotted all over some tourists which made us laugh pretty much down to the beach.
Once again (despite his best efforts) Pat got burnt. natalie was fine though. We headed into town again and visited the cathedral, which wasnt too amazing but quite quaint at the same time. We ended up losing 12? in a phone box so gave up ringing Pat's parents, luckily she rang us back at the hotel. We were so tired by this point bed was the only option. Pizza Hut was literally yards away so we got a pizza and headed back for the evening. We fell asleep to the sound of violin drifting across from the room next door, very nice.
Woke up at 10.30 to gather the rest of our things and headed for the train station, what a performance that turned out to be! First for some reason Santanderians dont like moving out the way very much, you'll find yourself on your ass if your not careful. Secondly the traffic isnt exactly calm. And thirdly the train staff seemed to be very annoyed with the fact we were ENGLISH and gave the impression we were nothing but a nuisance to them. We gave up on them (many evil stares following) and headed to the bus station to catch a bus to Bilbao. This is where we have to get the train to barcelona, except upon arrival it was discovered the station was miles from the bus station and the only train we can catch is the next day at 10.05 in the morning. So an unexpected night in Bilbao has occured. We used the metro to get to the station. The metro was very violent, scared Natalie a bit as we had to virtually run on and off before we were trapped in the doors. So here we are in Bilbao Station in an internet cafe trying to work out whether to rough it in the station or find a bed in this huge towering city. We feel like ducks out of water but were okay.
Hope your all doing good and not missing us too much.hehe
sorry if the pics dont work, we will try to work this system out soon.
