Hello folks, it's been a while i know and you have obviouslybeen waiting on tenter hooks for the next installment. Either that or i should really give up writing this blog as i am clearly the only one who reads it!
Right, missing out the mildly uninteresting bits and bobs, spent 3days in Bowen, on the beach, loads of bats above us that seemed to think we were a toilet but it was very hot and sunny. Peaks and troughs you know how it is!
Spent a night in Yeppoon. All there is to be said is it is a horrible place with horrible people but very good, cheap fish and chips!!
Next we headed to Elliot Heads for a couple of nights which was full of surfing and kite surfing families with sickeningly cool children who spend their days out on their boards. New mission in life is to marry a surfer and have cool surfing children. Weather was amazing for Easter Sunday so lay on the beach for the morning then went to the supermarket and bought steak and salad and coleslaw and had a barbeque on the outdoor grills on the beach. Were feeling very full so felt the need for a nap on the beach afterwards. It's ahard life but someone has to do it.
Hit Fraser Island for a two day escapade in a pimped 4 x 4 with ridiculous suspension. Booked the tour and we headed off in our new and improved vehicle. Raced a group of asians on to the ferry for the last spot, i assured them i had been in the queue before them even though over the loud speaker they were shouting 'silver car on first', Oh well you snooze you lose. Once on all the tour operators came up to our car for a chat/to ask us to pull aside once on the island so they could get infront of us as they didn't want to be held up!! Fair enough really, what else can you expect as 5 girls in a Toyota Landcruiser! Hit the island in severely dodge weather and went for a walk through the rainforest where piles and Face got their feet covered in Leeches! Quick removal and we were back on the road heading up to Lake Birrabeen for a swim. The most amazing water & white sand. Then we drove onto the beach and up to the Maheno shipwreck in the stormy weather, very atmospheric. Decided to camp on the beach (free of course) but after putting up the tent we got a little afraid of the dingos so we decided to eat dinner (beetroot and sweetcorn, yum) in the car and throw ourselves in the tent.
After Fraser we began hitting National Parks as the weather got a little colder. These were not light hearted National Park visits as we began to time ourselves against the recommended time limits! This came to a head in the Glasshouse mountains when Rose read the leaflet as Easy walks as opposed to easy climbs! We set off on the path toward Mount Ngungun which seemed fairly gentle at first. Then we passed the abseilers, causing a little confusion in the ranks but we carried on around the corner to be faced with a 75% gradient wall of rocks. Being game girls we headed upwards and 13 minutes later we reached the summit! 1 1/2 hour recommendation!! So losers that we are we headed for the highest peak on the East Coast, Mount Warning 1,156 metres high. We set off up the steadily vertical climb that ended in a vertical cliff with a metal chain to aid your climb. We were up and down within 2 1/2 hours only to find our car had been broken into, cameras and wallets gone which was a massive b*****.
Spent the next few nights at Sue and Marks house (jo's aunty) sorting stuff out which was amazing. We all had a bed and amazing food. Mark taught us the drums and the banjo! Country band here i come! Then we gradually made our way back to Sydney, with one person at the car at all times as the window was being fixed in Sydney! Eventually the long drive was done and we cleaned the car and spent our last day in the city before going out with everyone for dinner and drinks. Popped into Ourplace for pudding and goodbyes! Stayed out until 4am when we had to get our maxi cab to the airport! So long Australia...
