Hi all,
Last blog post i promise unless i get really bored in italy in which case you will probably get a moaning blog. No really i'm pleased about going to italy because it gives me a chance to ease into reality rather than going straight back to work.
So I'm now back home which its nice to be home but i loved america. For my last day in LA, i had planned to go to Santa monica but that turned out to be too far to travel so I ended up just going shopping - next best thing. Word of advice if you do go to America, shop in American Eagle Outfitters - it's such a nice shop and i bought loads there.
I had booked a taxi with the hotel for 5.30pm so i had a lot of time to wonder and enjoy my last few hours in Hollywood. Once I got back to the hotel, I got changed and waited for my taxi to arrive. However, unbeknown to me the hotel had planned a little upgrade for me as i had told them in the morning i was sad to be leaving after 6 weeks of travelling. So at about 5.30 they told me my taxi had arrived and as the doorman helped me with my bags he asked me if I 'd been told about my upgrade and i looked outside and there was a huge Hummer waiting for me. The hotel had arranged it at no extra cost and it was so cool. It was like climbing into a lorry to get into but there were leather seats, movies, i felt like a celebrity. it was really nice of the hotel actually and it was such a cool way to end my holiday.
So mini evaluation of my contiki tour...when I first arrived I thought 'oh my gawd' i'm on the Australians equivalent of a 18-30s holiday but it wasnt like that at all. Yes there was a lot of going out and partying but I'm 22 for goodness sake i'm meant to be out enjoying myself. Also I was so glad to have a group like I did for Vegas because you can't go to Vegas and not party - it's a rule. The favourite places I visited were LA, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. I was hoping to say San Francisco as one of my favourite places but I don't think i saw the best of it although the Golden Gate Bridge was incredible. I would definately do another Contiki and am hoping to in fact do another one next year of the East Coast of America. If not that then I will go somewhere else other than Italy - life is too short not to.
One other thing is that i would reccommend to anyone that if you do want to travel then dont be afraid to do it on your own - you meet great people and you can be entirely yourself and people can like it or lump it. Travelling has definately changed me and made me more confident in myself which is only a good thing. It's been one of the best ideas i've ever had and i'm so glad I did it.
I'm extremley jetlagged now though which is why I'm on the internet now, i woke up at 4am which is about 8pm LA time. I wasnt expecting to be jetlagged as I wasnt really sleeping at night over there and would catch up on my sleep on the coach during the day but i guess i must have adapted quite a bit so here i am internetting at 6am in the morning.
Anyway you may or may not hear from me in Italy,
Lots of love,
Paola.xxx.
