Hi all,
So the last time I wrote I was preparing for the god awful 24 hour journey to Paraty. We arrived yesterday here at 6pm. This was after a night bus from Foz to Sao Paulo. We then had to wait 3 hours in the bus station before catching our next bus to Paraty.
I can officially say I visited Sao Paulo but stayed strictly in the confines of the bus station. From what I saw entering the city on the bus, it is huge apparently it has a population of around 17 million. It is sad because you see how poor some people are like there was a man we saw who had set up a tent in the middle of the roundabout and that was his house, there were other people who just had a sofa under a bridge. The feel of the city though was very much not somewhere you wanted to spend much time in.
Paraty is nice. It has a very small village feel to it. This week there is some Catholic festival that they are celebrating so there are stalls set up selling food, drink and arts and crafts. It kinda reminds of the feast days in Italy as it is that kind of set up. Yesterday evening, we went out for a meal and then had an impromptu night out on the town. After sitting down for so long, it was nice to stretch my legs. Anyway that was good fun, I hardly drank anything though as they make the drinks so strong they are undrinkable (i find) and also Brazilian wine is a no go area.
Today, we went for a bike ride in the morning - the attempt was to go to a neighbouring beach but once we got there the track was too muddy so we couldnt go down it. So we dropped our bikes back off in the town had lunch and then got the bus to a beach called 'Trinidad Beach. This was really beautiful but the sun isnt very strong so I gave up hope of starting my tan. This evening I think we are going out again but considering how late last night was I don't know how long I will last - especcially after the bike ride this morning.
Tomorrow we are getting the boat to Ilha Grande which is a beautiful island off the coast. I've heard it's a bit of a travellers haunt. Also, I dont think there is any internet there so I won't be able to update until I arrive in Rio (so exciting!!!). But here is how I predict it will go hopefully a lot of sunbathing.
Anyway, thats all for now,
Much love,
P.xxx.
