Hi all,
Sorry I have been a bit rubbish keeping in contact but I have been very busy. So I have a few days to update you on so here goes.
On Sunday, I was still in Salto and me and three of the other girls decided it would be nice to go to Salto Spa. The actual spa is out of the centre of the town and it is so surreal when you arrive because it is a little town where there is a spa, thermal baths and a water park and everyone just quite happily wonders around in the street in dressing gowns. It is so surreal because we arrived in a taxi and there were loads of people just walking around in dressing gowns, this isnt even in the Spa. We kinda felt a bit left out but let it go. Anyway, the spa was so nice and luckily we had a little bit of hot weather is so could sunbathe. We all elected to have a hour massage and then just full use of the facilites within the spa. I enjoyed it and appreciated it even more when I was on the night bus to the Iguassu Falls.
So onto the nightbus, it was actually really comfortable apart from one major issue I had with it and that was the toilet. It was disgusting. I went once and then didnt drink anymore liquid because of the thought of using that toilet again made me feel ill and it was just disgusting. We have to get another night bus tonight and I will be doing the same thing - not drinking until I reach my destination.
So on Monday we reached the Iguassu Falls. We are staying on the Brazilian side of the Falls which in the little town here. When we arrived though it was chucking it down with rain, huge great big thunder storms and everything. So we arrived at our hotel and of course had a shower since I felt so disgusting after the bus. We then headed to the National Park for our walk on the Brazilian side of the Falls. The Falls are amazing ,they are so big. They put Niagara Falls to shame. The noise from them is incredible has well, words and photos cant explain how amazing they are. We only spent about 2 hours in the National Park that day as it was raining. In the evening we went out to a Japenese restaurant which was nice as I was able to eat something different.
Yesterday, we spent the day on the Argentian side of the Falls. We went on walks where you can get really close to the Falls. However, because of all the rain, there was nine times more water coming from the river which meant that the Devils Throat Walkway was shut but that didnt matter really because you can get so close to the Falls by other walkways. We also managed to go on the boat along the river to the Falls. This was so much fun but we got soaking wet. Apparently, usually you can go right under the Falls but again because of the amount of water this wasnt possible. But quite frankly we got close and wet enough for my liking.
When we got back to the hotel, I went to the supermarket and bought my first pair of Havianna's - they are so cheap. Laura and Joseph if you could please let me know your shoe sizes I will get some for you. In the evening, we went out for dinner and shock horror for the first time since I have been here I finished my meal - it was a decent pizza so it would have been rude not to finish it - who knows when I will get my next decent meal. After dinner, we went out to a bar with another Gap Group which was good fun.
So that's all my news. Today we have the day here and I think I'm going to the Bird Park in the National Park, the other option is cheap shopping in Paraguay but I cant really be bothered. This evening we get the nightbus which is the start of our long journey to Paraty and hopefully some sunshine and a beach. I can't wait for the beach, it's so exciting.
Sorry it's been rushed.
Much love,
Paola. xxx.
