Today was the drive from Florence to Rome. We were o a tight schedule here too so that we could do most of the Rome attractions that afternoon since one day really isn't enough. Only a four hour drive with another chaotic lunch stop then we hit Rome. Every second building was just ruins that are being restored. We all got out to serious heat and humidity for our waling tour. Only Italians who have studied history in Italy are legally allowed to guide in the country so we had to be careful about following Lara and asking lots of questions.
We covered the Colloseum, the big 'wedding cake', the Trevi fountain, the Forum and the Spanish steps this afternoon. A bird pooed on my foot on the Spanish Steps but luckily they have drink and wash fountains all over Rome so it was gone real quick. This was a good couple of hours wandering around Rome with Lara. We were then given another hour or so to grab dinner before going to the hotel. A group of us went to one of the restaurants in the main square so it was quite expensive and not very good food. The Italians like to serve their salmon with bones and nothing but fresh lemon and 4 potatoes. Yuk.
It was then to the hotel which was amazing!!!! It's well out of town which means fantastic rural views overlooking vineyards and old style houses. The hotel itself is very majestic with great décor and a massive pool with a fountain in the middle of it. Everyone was so tired from the walk so it was early to bed. Except for the Canadians who always seem up for a drink..
