Sadly had to leave Medewi Bay Retreat today and after breakfast our driver arrived for the drive to Ubud. It seemed to take forever. The traffic was terrible as the roads are hopelessly overloaded for their size and the volume of traffic is incredible. Because the coast road on the western side of Bali is also the main route from the Java-Bali ferry service, there are a huge number of trucks using the road which is quite windy. If is lucky if the car can go faster than about 60Kph. There are no speed limits here but it is impossible to speed as the traffic never stops even at midnight! Also, there are few direct routes from one place to another as steep ravines mean that the roads have to run north south in general so we had to go back to Denpasar in order to get up to Ubud. It was a bit cooler here, maybe 22 or 23 degC instead of 28-29degC. The Honeymoon Guesthouse was lovely and we again had 2 bedrooms. The beds have a huge frame around them covered in mosquito netting. We ate the Indus Restaurant and they had a Latino band and dance teachers who went around selecting people to dance with them. Most of the people selected seemed sensational, a bit like the regular Karaoke singers on the Gold Coast! Sarah was the only one who got the tap on the shoulder from our group but she declined the offer! There was a free taxi service from our Guest House to this restaurant which was nice.
