Hello all!!
So i have finally arrived in South Australia! wooo! I got here mid afternoon on Monday 3rd Nov! That was the last day of my nullarbor tour. It was fantastic! So been in Adelaide since Monday, and just been checking out the sights bascially. Not that much to do but it's a really nice city with lots of parks and intersting sites just dotted around.
Im updating just now as i leave Adelaide tomorrow morning early and just wanted to give you a quick run through of my nullarbor tour/experiecne, what i have done and where i went etc so here goes!
Sunday 26th October:
Left Perth at 7am for bus, met tour group, there was 12 of us, from all over europe and oz. Germans, Norwegian, Swiss, Dutch, Oz, Scots (me) think that was it.. First stop was to drive to historic town of York for breaky. This was the last place i had signal for about 2days. From York we started our drive to Wave Rock, a rock that bascially looks like a wave..dont worry i have a photo of me surfing on it! On our way to wave rock we blew our front tyer...so that was nice 2hour job of the men on our bus trying to fix it...turns out they were turnig the bolt the wrong way! haha, finally a farmer stopped to help us!
We finally ended our day at Fitzgerald national park, where we set up our tents for first night camping. I bunked up with Dutch girl Britt, who is now who im heading off travelling with tomorrow!
Monday 27th
Headed to Esperance in the morning, a lovey wee town that has lovely beaches! stayed here and stocked up on alcohol and had lunch. From there we headed to our next stop. Cape le Grand National Park. This has a stunning rock to climb, Frenchmans peak...so we set off on this to climb it...it was windy as anything, very steep and very difficult. We seen a snake on way up, poisions one! eeek. I made it to the top, but honestly thought of turnig around many times. But the viwe and photos i took where well worth the work! After our walk up we set our tents up at campsite, then few of us changed and ran for swim in blue sea!
Tuesday 28th
Up early for those who wanted to, to do a 5k costal trail walk. This wasn't as steep as yesterday's climb but was still pretty tough and tiring. Lots of walking through sand, plants, and random hill climbing invovled. Being scottish and taking the sun everywhere it was on/off rain the whole day! So everyone who went had on waterproofs, hats, it was bloody freeezing!! The pictures are totally beautiful but in all honestly, you would look at it and prob say i was in scotland hill climbing when you see how grey the sky is and how cold everyone looks!
Wed 29th
Today we basically just drove all day across the nullarbor, kangaroo spotting, camel spotting, emu spotting, was nice drive but nothiing for miles! Everyone was just playing quizes in the bus, making up quizes, taking the piss out of everyones nationallilty, just having good banter. Ipods being plugged in and my tour guide Tilly kept putting proclaimers on for the scottish gal on the bus! very amusing. Only stops was toliet ones and famous road sign ones! i have plenty on my camera to show!
Thurs 30th
Webt to Eucla for the night, camping once again. This was old telegraph town that was burried by a sandstorm! so we seen the remains of the town! This drive to here was also along the Southern Byte, so it was such a change from the nullarbor, just miles and miles of driving along the cliffs looking out to the sea! was amazing! At end of the day we done some sandboarding and set up camp once again!
Fri 31st
Sadly Oz dont really bother with halloween, so that was rubbish! today we went snorkelling with sea lions and dolphins, was so much fun but in all honesty the bit of water we where in was so bloody cold, even with wetsuit on!!! That night we went to Coodlie park farm retreat, which is the owners of the companies home, they cook you dinner and take you out on a night tour of there land for nocternal amimal spotting! I seen wombats, roo's and was finally shown the constallation that is the souther cross!
Saturday 1st Nov
We drove to Port Lincoln where we spent most of day taking surfing lessons. This could be the best part of the tour! Was sooo much fun. I learned to surf, and i actually managed to stand up and ride a wave as my instructor said after i done it! i was soo chuffed, the buzz you get when you first manage it without falling in after a sec is amazing! So im hoping to do it again when i get to Melbourne or somewhere like that!
Sunday 2nd
Today some folks went diving with sharks (they where in a cage) i declined this horrid optional excursion and the included one of going snorkelling with tuna fish too, apparently they are like mini sharks and bite... so i had relaxing day in town with fwe others who declined too.
Monday 3rd Nov
Well today we just basically drove home to adelaide. Though sadly for my guide, on way we lost the whole tyre of the trailor, it just fell off, it was also a new one that was changed form our old one when we stayed at the owerns ranch! Was madness. So we had to unlaod our bags from it, put them on bus and leave trailior in middle of dessert for the bosses to fix!
That night when everyone was settled into what ever hostel they were staying at, we all met outside mine (woo) and went to pub for drinks. Was nice way to end the tour. Fwe folks where leaving next day but most where staying in Adelaide for either week or longer. So it was quite nice as it meant that on Tues, i met susan, we spent day in town and had lunch. That night we all met up for dinner and drinks again.
Wed 5th
I met Britt today, we spent day sitting down by the river, people watching and just chilling out, relaxing before our next trip. That night i met Olle and Sussi, German couple from tour and we met another german from our tour (there was 4 of them in total!) and we all went for BBQ dinner at Marlannes hostel.
Thurs 6th
Today Britt and me went to Glenelg, small beach town 20 mins outside adelaide!Spent day lounging around, was nice way to end time here. When i got back to hostel tonight, guy i met in internet room the other day, Lucas was chatting to me and we ended up going back into town for dinner adn drinks. Then i was like, i have to go and pack, i leave tomorrow morning and have not even started cramming stuff into my backpack!! So we wandered back to YHA and i met my germal couple friends on way and said bye to them as they are staying longer.
Got in, showered, dunno how but crammed everything into backpack and now am giving you the short aberviated version of the last 12 days or so since i left Perth! I really liked the last tour, was great way to meet folks heading in same direction as you and i made a travel buddy in Britt.
So tomorrow, Britt and me are flying to Alice Springs, we have all day Fri there and then on Saturday at 5am (im not kidding) we are picked up and start our 10 day tour we booked! It goes from Alice Spring to Kings Canyon, Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Coober Pedy, Rawnsley Park, Wilpena Pound, Parachilna, Adelaide (yup saldy end up back here for 2nights) then from Adelaide it starts again (so some people stay on same one, others finish here and some new ones join) and from here it goes to along the Great Ocean Road!! So to Grampians National Park, Great Ocean Road drive then finally ends in Melbourne on Monday 17th Nov!!
So it's going to be pretty full on, lots of early morning, long walks and lots of driving but im really looking forward to it as i get to see the middle of the country now. Done the West Coast, across the Middle, been in the South and now doing down the middle and that will bring me to end in Victorial - Melbourne. Britt has 5days in Melbourne, so we're booking into same hostel and sightseeing for that time then she leaves on the Sat night to fly to Perth then home to Holland. So when she leaves i am going to hopefully stay with my mate Stu who is living there. He has offered me flat for few nights to crash, show me around and take me out! Plus i have Martin Barnes from good old torph pub, he is taking me out to the good pubs too, and finally my friend Kelly i met on the Thailand tour, she lives there and is looking forward to meetiong up again too! So really looking forward to next tour, being kept busy and having company on it. Then getting to the city as melbourne is meant to be amazing! Having friends there that i can meet and hang with and i think i will spend a total of maybe 10days there. After Melbourne i think Brisband and Fraser island but will see what happens, playing it by ear as that is what i done for nullarbor and met Britt and managed to book onto the same tour as her as we where both heading to melb!
So that is half 10 here. Im going to go and sort whta i still have to do out. Get bus to airport from street next to my hostel at 7:52am, takes 20mins and my flight is at back of 9. Meeting Britt there as she is staying elsewhere in city. I will have no net acces/phone signal after Saturday, so prob wont be intouch again til Adelaide on thrus/Fri i tink im back here.
Hope all is good back in bonnie scotland. Still haven't met a scot yet!
keep in touch, though there is a 10 1/2 hour time difference now, so it's harder for me to get yous when your awake, sorry! Will try with the photos one day, just too busy to take the time, takes ages on every pc i try, very annoying as i would love to show you all where am i and who i have met!
missing everyone xxx
