It was our first full day in Amritsar and we were stuck really for what to do as we had seen the temple yesterday! We went and found a place to have breakfast (not quite sure what it was we ate though). The Korean girl had left our room last night and no Gary Linekars came in her place tho!
It is funny how you all say we are looking browner in our pics as it is so cold here most of the time and we are as white as when we arrived! It is like those mornings when you are driving to work in the winter when the sun is in the sky and you are wearing your sunglasses but at the same have the heater on full blast to warm your numb feet. I love my cheapy blanket more than anything else I have with me! it was the best buy this holiday! not that we have brought anything else due to lack of space!
We decided to sit in the temple at the side of the holy water pool which surrounds the inner temple for a bit while deciding what to do with the day. We ended up sitting there for 3 hours !! we were like celebs! people were queing to talk to us and people wanting to take our photos. We met a nice couple and a few other blokes who were really curious about our country and way of life! Sabby, one of the guys we met spoke really good english and later took us to the park we wanted to find where the british shot and killed hundreds of Sikhs years ago! (We were from Canada when people asked!)
We went to the food hall in the temple where 4 thousand people are fed for free every day! They were not used to seeing westerners sitting on the floor alongside them. You had to collect a tray then cutlery and sit in a long line on the floor while men would pass by with food (lentils etc) and you had to catch flying chipatis as they went! The food was lovely though and it was a great experience. one of the photos are loaded on for you of me and Sabby.
We packed up our bags and headed to the train station for about 8.30pm. We nearly missed it as it had Mumbai on the side of it rather than Dehli! This time we were in the normal compartment sleeper carriage which have about 30 bunk beds stacked 3 high in each bit! we ended up with the ones at the top and had no-where to put our bags so had to sleep with them. (as a result we did't sleep to well that night) Men were going through all night selling food and drink and the men were all snoring, chanting and making other smelly noises (im sure you can guess what they were)!
The next morning we arrived in Dehli and got a tut tut to a hotel in the middle of no-where but the room was nice and there was loads of hot water so I washed my dredlocked hair for the first time ion a good few days!!
We went out for a valentines meal and then headed back for a nights sleep in a proper bed (it even had covers!- no bed bugs either)
A BIG BIRTHDAY SHOUT OUT TO MY DAD AND TO TRACEY! hope you have a lovely day!! love and hugs to both of you xxx
We get back on Sunday24th midday ish xxxxx
