We're getting into the swing of this travelling gig. We got up too late to do what we intended, so called an audible and had an easy morning. We found a great bakery/deli for breakfast and just chilled. I feel a little more localised, as it wasn't in a touristy place, and my crossaint and chocolate was devine.
We then spent about 4 hours at Amsterdam's #1 museum, the Rijks Museum. It first opened in 1885, and it has just finished this year a major restoration to it's original floor plan. Forcussed on Dutch art and history, there are lots of Vermeers, Hals and Rembrants there - so hard to see it all, but we enjoyed it.
After we left the museum, we plonked down at a Dutch pub on a canal for 3 beers in the late afternoon sunshine. So nice; chatted with the publican, and watching the world go by on their bicycles is great fun. We ended the day with a good meal (a Rice Table - lots of small samplers) at an Indonesian restaurant called Long Pura. The Dutch ruled Java for so long, there's a good influence here.
Finally, I must direct you to the photo of Peter peeing in the canal by our place - they have special only-partially-private booths for this. I've seen more than a few men peeing in the water, so public facilitiies to do so makes awful sense. Last night I dreamt I was the Queen of the Netherlands and I was directing a big clean-up of the canals - maybe that will come true!
