Friday 20th April 2007Journal brought to you by Sophie  Today was an early start although we didn?t have to worry about waking any of our room mates because we had our own room!  It was soooo good. Plus I slept so well. We got up and caught the bus to Tully.  Our bus happened to be full of Irish people.  I swear we attract them!  Today we were going white water rafting!  WOO! We got to the offices and then rented some rafting shoes (basically Jesus sandals) whilst watching the safety video.  I was actually really scared because I had no idea how rough it was going to be and I was also worried that if I got water in my contact lenses then I wouldn?t be able to see and it would ruin the whole experience.  When we had finished the briefing we hopped onto another bus and went up to the top of the river in the middle of the mountains in Tully.  In the town itself they have this absolutely gigantic golden Wellington boot which they have erected because theya re something like the town in the whole of Australia with the most rainfall.  Bit weird but I guess these little towns need some sort of recognition otherwise they would just be overlooked?bit like Bubbenhall and its lame attempt to be village of the year, West Midlands and Warwickshire.  Bless it.We got to the top and we were split into groups.  Here is my rundown of ours;Jean ? the laziest French guy in the whole entire world and so full of himself.  Did absolutely no work during the whole day and this meant my arms were dying by the end of it.  We got our revenge though when Tami ?accidentally? pushed him out the boat.  Was hilarious.Chile (Daniella) ? as the name suggests she was from Chile.  Bit annoying at the end but nice enough.  Was friends with the French guy. They made a good couple.Veronique ? French speaking Canadian. Didn?t really say much but was really nice all the same.Iliana ? another French speaking Canadian although she didn?t have a French accent like her friend?Reese ? our Ozzie guide. Really nice guy and funny.Tami ? chief faller outer of the boat.  She fell out three times!  I do not know how she did it. Was very funny though when she went floating off down this rapid and we had to haul her back in.Sophie ? white water rafting legend.  Need I say more?? Saved the team. The whole day was so much fun!  We tackled a total of 45 rapids and got thrown around all over the place! It was awesome. At one point we all had to clamber to one end of the raft and then went down this rapid backwards so that we were thrown out half way through. At lunch we stopped off in the middle of the forest and had a barbeque ? it was so nice. We had burgers and salad and fruit in case you wanted to know Mother. After this we jumped off a 4m high rock into the water, got taken under a waterfall and pounded by the water and swam in little rapid pools. Reese decided to prove to us that we hadn?t been doing enough work by sitting us on one side of the boat whilst he sat on the other and made us all paddle. Reese made us tip over because he was paddling harder than all of us put together.  It was Frog Legs? fault. We had a really good time. The sun was out and kept us warm, the scenery of the mountains was fantastic and the whole experience was so exhilarating.  When we got back to the hostel I sat in the hammocks outside and then cooked.  Tami and I both fell asleep at about 9:30 by mistake because we were lying on our beds talking.  Woops! Our little arms must have been exhausted by all the hard work they had been doing.  Bless.
