Monnt Whaleback Mine, Newman, WA, Western Australia
The thundering giant sleeps!!
The massive Mt Whaleback mine which is usually a thunderous cacophony of noise and frenetic action lies quietly resting - on Australia Day!
It almost seems eerie, ghostly. I am sitting on the top of Radio Hill with the morning breeze brushing over me: cooling me after running up the steep side of the hill in the muggy heat.
It's glorious. I can't think of any better term for this now. It is truly glorious: the stillness, the serenity, the peace; even though surrounded by the environmental brutality of a mining town that is the antithesis of Wilderness.
I can sense God in the gentle caress of the morning breeze, and I am so thankful that I can so enjoy His Creation like this: tired and sore and sweating in the burning sun, but invigorated by the glorious sense of being Alive!!
Ngimangalisa inkosi inkhulu!
