Day 37
We were seated in the classroom of School of the Air by 8:15am This was originally setup making use of the pedal radio, broadcasting lessons to the kids in remote outback stations. Later, car batteries were used as power supplies and later still the interactive lessons were converted to be given over the Internet.
Today was the last day of term and they were having their Easter assembly. It was very cute "this is Lucy from Pooncarie, over" and Ben from Acacia Downs didn't answer and his little brother came on to stay that Ben had been taken by the Flying Doctors to hospital as he fell off his motorbike out by the airstrip when they were doing wheelies!
We were saying that it was a long time since we were hungover in a classroom.
Spent the afternoon out at the ghost town of Silverton, originally a mine but long since ceased. There is now a resident artist population and quite a few movies have been filmed out there including scenes from Mad Max and Pricilla Queen of the Desert. They have delayed filming the next Mad Max movie as it is too green!
After dinner in the campsite, some grey nomad Aussies came over and started chatting to us and had to get us over to join their drinking circle, which we duly obliged. They then proceeded to feed us whiskey.
Overnight: Lake View Caravan Park, Broken Hill
