I am enjoying a wonderful few hours by myself; a very rare treat this year. I just had to look again at all the holiday cards you sent us. I'm so happy! Thought I'd also post about our first week in London. As we hit the halfway point of the trip this is a great place to be. The familiarity with language and life is a great comfort and very relaxing. It feels a lot like home, which is nice to ease the separation at the holidays, but is different enough to be very exciting. A new favorite pastime is eavesdropping on all the conversations everywhere we go and trying out the UK lingo. My favorites so far are..."give it a go" and "straight away". "Rubbish" and "brilliant" are the top adjectives. Which I much prefer to sucks and awesome. I'll ask the girls to bring these stateside and give them a go.
We spent the week doing a little bit of holiday shopping, a bit of sight-seeing and some relaxing. We took a Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour for two days, seeing the sights and getting the lay of the land. We checked out Camden Market, Chinatown, Piccadilly Square, Oxford Street and Trafalgar Square. If I don't get hit by a bus while I'm here it will be a miracle. I can't get accustomed to looking right when crossing the streets. We tried one new food since our arrival - "bubble and squeak". These are also the girls' new nicknames. Guess who is who. A great hilight was attending a football match on Saturday night. What a great time! Anthony has loads (!) of video he will put on the site soon. Anthony and the girls are enjoying the science museum today, while I had my hair cut at a salon. Brilliant!
I re-read Bridgit Jones this week and laughed out loud picturing Hugh Grant in the movie. I have to rent it while we are here. I also read The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. The book was sitting in our apartment when we arrived and I feel like it was here for me. Harold goes on a long walk - 3 months through England. "There was so much out there, so much life going about its daily business...he felt in a profound way that he was both inside and outside what he saw; that he was both connected and passing through...this was the truth about his walk, he was both apart of things, and not." The G4s are like little Harold Frys out here on the road!
When the fam gets back we are headed out (straight away) to recreate a famous Brit band photo for our Christmas card. Stay tuned. We have an agenda for tomorrow that was written out by Nina a week ago. It includes what time we should wake and open presents. Meal times and that we should Skype family. So that's all set. We hope that you have a wonderful holiday. Know that home, friends and family are in our thoughts. Sending extra hugs to Aunt Mary. Feel better soon.
