The day before we left Chiang Mai, my dad and I went on a bike tour. My mom and Nina were wimps and didn't want to get up early so it was just the two of us. We woke up at 6:30, ate breakfast at the hotel then left. In Chiang Mai you can ride in these trucks with seats built in the back. We were a little worried that the driver was going the wrong way when he started driving into this neighborhood, but it ended up being right! We had very nice people going on the tour with us. There were two older sisters from Amsterdam that go on a vacation every year together and another girl from London who was traveling with her friend for a long period like us! During the whole tour we talked with them. It is very interesting hearing about other peoples lives. On the tour we stopped at a leper colony, a local temple, a small factory that makes donuts, bread etc, an orphanage, a school, and a place where they make clay pots. The leper colony was very sad to see, but whenever I biked past someone they always smiled at me. After experiencing something I never thought I would do in my life we kept on biking to a local temple. Every temple that we go to is so interesting to see because it is different than what we are used to. This one had a huge reclining Buddha covered in Thai coins. Also at the temple there was this rat that you whispered a wish into his ear and he would tell it to the Hindu gods. I hope my rat wish comes true! We did more biking through the backstreets of Chiang Mai till we arrived at a small factory that made donuts and other bread things. It was very small, nothing compared to a Dunkin' Donuts factory! I got a free donut. It was delicious! Since during the tour we would be going to an orphanage all the people in our group bought donuts for the kids. Before going to the orphanage we stopped at a school in the neighboorhood. Everytime we walked into one of the classrooms all the kids would say hi to us and pose for pictures. So cute! One of the classes we saw was having a lesson in English. My dad got to teach them some phrases like, "how are you" and "what's your name". The kids were very happy. Then next stop on the tour was a clay pot studio. There were two men sitting at pottery wheels and they would make one pot every minute. It was crazy! Where they stored the pots to dry there was a mom and her baby puppies, they were so tiny and cute! We made a quick stop to look at what the old Chiang Mai ruins looked like then biked back. We said goodbye to the great people we met then left. Overall it was an awesome day!
