Buenos dias from Seville! We are waking up slowly after a late night of flamenco dancing. Later this morning we are heading west to the beaches of Algarve and our next country, Portugal.
Seville has been fabulous. Yesterday we spent most of the day in the Alcazar, a royal palace. Or after listening to the audio tour, a big man fort for Peter I. During the audio tour Peter regaled listeners with his tales of how he would go to certain secret rooms and enjoy evenings with "plenty of wine and beautiful women". It seems he built many secret passages to get away from all people, his mother, father and wife. Hence, the creation of the "man cave".
The palace is an architectural marvel. Every detail from the geometric designs to the stones on the path are hand placed and designed accordingly. Amy and I commented frequently on the amount of time it must have taken someone to lay down a tile or carve an inscription into the stone. Of course, all of this hard work could be immediately over turned by the whims of Peter or some of his guests like King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, who were married in the fort, who might come along and say, "build me a new roof to my liking".
After a siesta in our hotel we went back out to watch a performance of flamenco dancing at the Casa de la Memoria, a cultural center with a courtyard to watch dancing. As someone who loves the backbeat, I can hear you James, I really enjoyed the rhythms of the dancers. They coupled their tapping with hand clapping and and slapping. The dancing was accompanied by otherworldly guitar playing and trance like singing. I've attached some videos to give you a feel. They only allow you to video and photograph one song.
Before heading off this morning we're on a quest for some churro con ciocolatto. Although we've been told they're addicting we're going to risk it.

Russ Aim, G-Force, Mama Celeste and Pimento (our new nickname for Nina) - Great stories so far, cool to read about your trip almost real-time. That bench in Barcelona looks like the one where Karyn's purse was stolen.... We look forward to your Blogs and pictures - The LeFevre's
Jane LeFevre Hi guys, so exciting following you. I am green with envy. Took Rusty to see a flaminco dancer once and he drove us nuts posing and clicking for days. How was the churro?
Jonelle Hey Guys! We are absolutely loving your blog! Each entry is finely crafted and makes us feel we are right there with you. Many thanks for taking us along on this journey! I can't think of a better gift to give yourselves as a family than this trip! Love & hugs to all. Stay safe!
Amy Jane - we never found the churros! So disappointing. Thanks for the scoop on Rusty. Love it! Wishing you the best.
