We want to say a quick hello from Toyko. Karyn, Russ and the kids met us here 3 days ago and it has been a whirlwind of sightseeing since they arrived. After eight months of deciding what to do and where to go we passed the baton to Russ and let him be our troop leader. The rain has barely slowed us down as he has back up agendas for bad weather. Yesterday we found a Hello Kitty stick, but we won't settle. We are searching for Godzilla on a stick. We are all so happy to have such great friends with us. We keep commenting that it feels so normal to be hanging out together then we will notice that we are in the middle of Tokyo. We have all traveled together many times, including a boondoggle in Alaska a few years ago, but this is the best! So far we have visited a Ishikawa Sake Brewery (or blewely, according to our guide) on the outskirts of the city, Akihabara - the electronics district, Ueno Park for the zoo and to see pandas, Sensoji Temple, cherry blossoms, the art museum, more temples, had noodles and dumplings, Korean bbq, and more noodles and dumplings, ate octopus and even went to a Tae Bo class for my super fit friend. We are loving the kindness, cleanliness and order of Tokyo. What a great city. So much more to do and see over the next few days in the city. Then we head to Kyoto on the bullet train for a some time in the oldest city in Japan.
