The girls and I have had a fun game while visiting Antwerp. Our hotel happens to be in a section called Diamondland. There are jewelers everywhere, even next door to McDonald's. Whenever we come to a shop we stop and pretend we can have one thing in the window. Celeste always goes for big and flashy, Nina picks something petite and simple. I'll have to see if their tastes change as they get older.
One of my favorite pieces of art so far on the journey was from a special exhibit at Versailles. As you walked through the Hall of Mirrors you could see a huge pair of high heels at the other end of the room. When you got closer you saw that it was designed from pots and lids. It was a cool surprise as you realized it was cookware. According to the artist, it represents the "duality of women".
One more girly thing...I found a beautiful linen shop in Ghent and they had a second location in Brugge...

Who hasn't dreamed of ordering your bed linens from Europe? Or is that just me?
We are packing up and heading to Amsterdam in just a bit. We couldn't book a houseboat like we had hoped. This last minute booking is a drag. We need to get booked out a little further for lower stress levels and better selection. Speaking of booking out further, yesterday we plotted out our route a little more specifically all the way through Thanksgiving. Now we just need to book places to stay and then we can just enjoy the ride for a bit.
Off to Amsterdam! Hope we don't have to expain the red light district to Nina!

Erin K. Our niece is in Amsterdam for her fall semester with USC. If you see a goofy acting Asian-looking girl, ask her if her name is Katie ;). Have fun!!
Amy Erin - I'll be on the lookout for her! When we were getting the key to the apartment someone got hit by a bus right outside the office! Maybe you should check in with her! Hope you are well.
