Day 3 , 10 February 2014
The sun's not up yet and people had started making noises and spitting round the tents (brushing teeth in case you're wondering), preparing themselves for the morning circle at 6:45am. I must say, this group has no problem waking up early, rather "very early" would be more appropriate.
Past breakfast, Team Majulah was put to our first activity-based game to test our teamwork. We were to form a square with a rope while all of us were blindfolded. It was really a test of the team's communication. We were unsure of what to do, with no clear instructions from anyone, many suggestions plus battling the loss of sight, after 20 minutes, we were able to make a not-so-perfect-square. Some might call our square a rectangle actually. Regardless, after sharing what had gone wrong, we tried a second time and we succeeded forming a star, blindfolded and within a faster time. Another plus point of the team, we learn fast :) !
Highlight of Day 3 would be our inaugural desert trekking. Yippee! Finally with our backpacks, we head out into the world of sand. It's exciting! A change of scenery, good weather, no more freezing cold feeling, sun wasn't too hot and there is wind. A perfect day to walk with good company.
The 4-hour trekking covered lots of photoshooting, many were magazine cover-page material. I would say OBS would have a very easy time marketing the Oman programme with those photos. I mean... Who would have lunch at the top of a sand dune? And a jump-shot in the middle of the desert? Or dust off camel bones and pose pictures with it? Probably only the pioneer batch - Team Majulah would have done it. Not only that, we even had to rescue our truck out of the sand dune! Look out for the photos and videos of how the team had dug sand underneath the wheels of the truck and pushed it out of its stuck position.
It's the first day since our journey started where we got to settle in at the campsite at a very comfortable time. We managed to have dinner at around 6pm with very delicious food! Remember Day 1 when we learnt that it was better to cook everything in a pot? And Day 2 when we only had bread and instant noodles? Well Day 3 was different... Yuh Fun made us an army stew of chicken and vegetable, and Sharon gave us a chicken fiesta with BBQ curry chicken, masala chicken and her invention - BBQ coffee chicken breast! Even the usually very quiet and polite OB female instructor exclaimed that it's good. She said it with a very impressed look not like the one where she said "delicious" when we offered her the grilled fish on the first night. See what I mean when I say that our team learn fast? You might be surprised what we can come up with by the last night of our trip. Maybe a 5-course meal with appetizer and dessert...
Well it's late... On such a good night, a clear sky with bright moon and stars, I wish everyone goodnight and sweet dreams.
Signing out,
