The Saints
We have anchored again in The Saints, a group of islands at the southern end of Guadeloupe. Very strange these islands are inhabited by people originating in Brittany rather than Africa. The men have gone back to beer and wine as there preferred tipple, a French beer called Desperados, which is flavoured with tequila is the current favourite.
We have been for a walk round the main island and up to an old fort on the highest point. A long hot walk up hill but the view was spectacular. I was a little slower than the men in reaching the top, by the time I got ther they had climbed to the top of the fort via a very steep ladder which I didn't think looked safe and were celebrating with a can of Desperados. I did go up the ladder after all I had the camera and the view was from the top. The logic being that if it held Alex's weight it would hold me.
Alex has had plenty of opportunities to try out his new mega fins, the snorkelling here is very good, the water is very clear. We all went snorkelling on a shallow reef, there were loads of fish and because it was shallow there was no need to dive down to see them.
In town we have found an old lady who makes excellent pain au chocolate for one euro each. She bakes them in the afternoon and sells them from a table outside her house, they are fresh and hot. Well worth a trip across in the dingy.
