I am lying in a hammock, drifting sleepily along in the realm between waking and sleep. A light wind rustles through the leaves above me and swirls around playing with my hair, while the dappled sunlight falls on my feet warming them. I am rocking gently with the breeze and I can hear the rush of the ocean beating on the shore, like the sound of an old man breathing. The gulls are circling in the sky giving off an occasional cry and I can smell the sea salt in the air. The ocean is calling…
It was the last day of the cruise and today we were due to be docking at he Great Stirrup Cay - the private island owned by Norwegian Cruise Lines. It was beautiful and clean, with aquamarine coloured waters and sparkling white sand. The day was hot and I went swimming along with all the other passengers from the cruise ship, so as you can imagine the beach was rather full (now I know what the beaches in Cape Town are like on the second of January!) However, despite the many people I had a beautiful day on the beach. The perfect ending to a wonderful cruise!
