We are half way through our first sit and the last week or so has been quite eventful . Apart from a stomach virus we have been running backwards and forwards to the vets for one reason or another with the dogs, rescuing birds from the chimney and clearing up parts of half consumed birds and mice that Stuffing has brought in . Bless Her.
However , yesterday, Easter Sunday Afternoon we managed to get to st Fagans welsh museum near Cardiff , only about 30 mins drive along the M4 http://www.museumwales.ac.uk/stfagans/.
I went here years ago on a school trip when I was in primary school so that shows how long it was!! . The place is a welsh village with buildings dating back to tudor times . Everything is just as it was then and they have craft displays like weaving , blacksmithing and also clog making. Fascinating and they have started to add on additions and transport buildings from around the country and rebuild on site. They had a building split down into rooms showing homes in victorian times through to 1950's prefab built during and after the World War II to rehouse those made homeless by the bombings . It contained a lot of the artefacts I remember my Nan having in her home years ago. One little girl walked into the 1925 rooms and said" look mummy it looks like a real house " much to the amusement of everyone there. She couldn't comprehend that anything prior to that was a real home but she was only 5 years old.
St Fagans covers a large area so we had to pace our selves and keep taking breaks every so often. however , there are plenty of cafes and seats to sit down . We didnt get to see the castle or the inside museum as they are totally refurbishing it but it will be good to go back and see. Well worth a visit.
We have both realised we packed far too much stuff and could have brought half what we did except I think we should have brought gas masks as Thud and Roxy spend most of the evening releasing smells that should never meet the human nose . One night we went to bed at 8pm as we couldn't stay in the same room anymore . The febreeze was no longer masking the smell .
Have had 2 cancellations of house sits one due to a death of parent and the other due to a death of the pet we were going to house/pet sit for unexpectedly so have to get applying for some more . May have one in Northern Ireland . That should be interesting as we have never visited Ireland and it is on our places to visit goal list .
