We had a great day today, we headed out to Coongan where we lived as kids. The station has been abandoned for some time now and the buildings have all but fallen down. It was quite a surreal experience to see the place 40 years on wasted away to rubble. The beautiful old homestead where we used to eat 3 meals a day and sleep, flat on the ground. Graeme and I were a bit taken back by the whole experience of seeing the place after so many years. So many memories came flooding back as we walked around the old buildings were we used to live and play. The coongan river was a big part of our day playing down there eating widgety grubs, bungarra, emu, snake and kangaroo with the aborignals that lived on the place. Hunting with the black fellas along the river and beyond into the bushlands.
It would have been great if Barry could have been there with us, maybe thats for another day. Sammii and Briah were at a bit of a loss, i dont think they could see what all the hype was about with Graeme and I. Still they enjoyed the river crossings in the 4wd.
We headed into Marble Bar from Coongan to reminisce years gone by. Chinamans pool was very dry and un-swimmable so we went to Marble Bar Pool which had some nice pools for Briah to have a swim in. The Jasper rocks there were still as beautiful as they were when we were kids. We checked out the old Comet Mine Museum which was nice. Graeme brought Sammii and Briah a bracelet each which brought Huge smiles to there faces. Sammii got a lovely Jasper Bracelet and Briah got her favourite emerald an amethyst bracelet, she wore it with so much pride all day she just couldn't wipe the smile off her face. We then headed back to the caravan park for showers and up to the pub for a fantastic meal. Sammii had quite a few champagnes and was as bubbly as ever. All in all it was a great day and we look forward to many more like it.
