So we've arrived! LA is everything we could have expected and more...!
First stop Venice Beach hostel! You wake up and you just know you're in America. Spent our first morning walking the streets in the beautiful sunshine and err....walking the isles of Ralphs grocery store in amazement!! Why don't we have half this stuff at home? Protein Monster Drinks and peanut butter everythingsss! WE LOVE IT.
As we're so close to the beach we spend most of our time here. Venice Beach is something else. Not quite what we expected though....think Camden Town on the beach and you'll be about right. We like to call it 'mad-mile' as there's a stretch of beach with street performers, legal high pushers & homeless people (even a homeless man selling cardboard cut-out signs to other homeless people!), a man in gold hot pants and a boombox on skates looking like Mr T, a turban wearing man on a skateboard playing guitar & selling t-shirts.....these are just a few of the things you'll find on Venice Beach.
La la land people like to work out. We come across Muscle Beach and Darrol just had to get involved. $10 for all day entry to the gym. Right on the beach front and full of posers. You gotta don your finest speedo's to gain entry here! Darrol made the mistake of actually trying to do a decent workout in the sun instead of just posing and having pictures taken with the tourists, yeah he melted!
Lots of celebs floating around here, guess who Darrol sees on the cycle path....only P!NK. I happen to be looking the other way as she passes TYPICAL! Not only did he see her but who did he bump into on the way out of Golds Gym in Venice only Lou Ferrigno - the HULK!!!!! Again, I missed out. Jeez. If you wanna celeb spot this is defo the place to be! :)
We stumbled upon the most amazing cocktail bar on the beach front - Cabo Cantina - if you're ever at Venice Beach this is a must. They do mega margaritas that get you reet drunk and amazing burritos... be sure to go on Taco Tuesday, all you can eat!!!
We got into the habit of cycling to Cabo Cantina on the beach cruisers and having a few too many and then cycling home....don't drink and ride kids, you'll get bruises!!!! *ouch*
