Our european vacation 2012 has been a whirlwind and as I look back at the week, I might have to say the blogs were a bit of an ambitious venture.
Our trip to Costa Rica must have been at a much slower pace...everyday we found time to write funny stories and upload video's of our daily bull rides and snake petting zoo extravaganzas... not this trip.
From sun up to sun down (ok - you all know me - its not really sun up...9am...and its well later than sun down :)... but the things to see, the wine and beer to drink and the language barriers have been enough to keep a girl from the states super busy.
So - I will take a quick look back and give you the overview of the London adventure. The one thing you will quickly notice is that the pictures are a lot fewer than my usual state of being "picture happy."
The weather was COLD and RAINY. I hear that is standard London weather but when you have a girl from GA limping around in flip flops (remember the broken toe) and early in the trip - not a chance in hell I was sticking this foot in any shoe that had a heel or even anything that remotely touched my pinkie toe.
But - DON'T WORRY.... happy pills and cocktails make Stacy a fun travelor even in 40 degree weather and flip flops (yes - flip flops)
Our trip started with a limo pick up... arriving to the airport VIP style is a must for the start of the trip - as well as a trip to the international terminal Crown Room (I love my platinum American Express)... after that and - YES - dinner at TGIF's - we hoped onto the Delta Flight 10 to London England -Heathrow Airport.
After a few movies - lots of wine - I found myself waking up in a pile of Smartfood popcorn that somehow missed my mouth...and there we were.
Customs was quite a line and then we hoped on the Heathrow Express. Met a gal who actually interned at a sports radio station in London who was visiting her friends - she became our train buddy. She helped us buy an international phone and promised to be my friend forever. No - we did not see her again... oh well.
Right out of Paddington station was our hotel - Hotel Indigo. Quite stylish and with a great bar downstairs - we loved it. We didn't actually spend any time there, but it worked.
It is now 3pm London time...and a girl has to eat. We headed to our first London Pub called Victoria's.http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-victoria-london#popup:bookmark Turns out - most pubs only have beer/cocktails and pretty crappy food... but we got lucky. This may have been 1 of 2 pubs in London that have both (we learned this from a local). Thank goodness as Michael was worried all food in london was going to be crap.
I drank Champagne from the beginning...and why wouldn't I! It's not a party without champagne of course and this WAS my first trip to Europe.
From there - we had to remember - wer were actually in London for a reason - Michael had some work to do. So - after a quick change - yes - still flip flops - we headed to meet some of his employees at the Windsor Castle.
Michael and I hoped a "hack" (that is a Taxi cab in London). Our first driver was amazing and his son is training to be an Olympian Kickboxer (which I didn't know was a sport).
We ended up at the Windsor Castle pub http://www.yelp.com/biz/windsor-castle-london-5#query:windsor%20castle%20pub and met Lee and Brin. Lee was your proper English Men - nice suit and tie and very stuffy... and then there was Brin - Welsh -and the man I wanted to be my London Tour guide. I offered to pay his hourly rate on Friday to hang out with me... (get your mind out of the gutter - did you see this little man). Anyway - I got a N-O-from the boss so I had to come up with a new plan.
I continued on with Champagne as the boys got Michael all the great beers along with an education for Michael. I think they wanted Michael to take them to an expensive London restaurant... but after our day / night / day (and do you remember the champagne) - we decided to stay put and enjoy the other pub in London that actually has good food.
So - what kind of food I am sure you are wondering! This is not your standard fish and chips (which we never just as an FYI).. .WE HAD THAI...which I have come to learn is quite good in London... AFter that - it was way too long for bed time. Off we went - me hobbling along on the streets of London back to our hotel for another day!
Boy - that was alot to pack in a little bit of time. But - I wouldn't have changed my first day (except for the toe)... But - right before I went to bed... I felt an itch... what could it be.
