We arrived in Amsterdam at 1000 and were fairly rested for a night on the trains sleeper. We put our bags in the lockers so we could go for a walkabout and see if we can find some Internet and get a room for the night, we found the Golden Arches and made ourselves comfy with a bite to eat and our iPad to find cheap accom close to the train, we found the hotel called the orange tulip and although it sounded dodgy, it fit all the criteria (cheap and close) we paid €57 for the night. We found the hotel on the Main Street next door to Teasers (kinda like hooters) and after climbing the steepest staircase known to man with our backpacks on we dumped our stuff to go for a wander. The place creeped me out a little but I think the overcast and miserable weather accounted for some of that feeling. We took a canal cruise which was really lovely, going up and down the beautiful canals. I started to warm up to the place seeing a different side and feeling not so concerned for our safety ha. We even managed a walk in the red light district which was an interesting walk, women in windows selling there wares and live sex shows every few steps. I bought some psychedelic seeds to try but decided against it as I'm a nanna and it freaked me out when I was told it could cause nausea and tummy pain :( We finally ended up back at our room and decided to eat at the grasshopper pub we had ribs and it was a huge meal and yummy. Nice end to our first day in Amsterdam.
