We left Milan relatively early this morning, not as early as I had hoped for as the train drivers were striking so they weren't running as regularly as they should have, so we had to wait for almost 2 hours sitting in maccas waiting around for our departure time of 1125. Was finally time to get on the train and thankfully we got on so early as it filled up completely close to departure time. Was funny watching all the people in first class getting tickets for travelling in the wrong class and their expressions of surprise when it's pointed out that they are in the wrong class (you can't get it wrong it's plastered everywhere) anyway that kept us entertained for a while, how quickly we've become snobs travelling in first class lol. We arrived in Verona just after 1pm and had no idea where the centre of town was and as we hadn't booked accommodation we got in a cab and asked him to drop us at a cheap hotel in the centre of town. He did a great job dropping us out the front of the hotel Albergo Trento right in the centre of town and only €60 a night, was a cute little family run hotel, very clean and had a little balcony and all (not overlooking anything but was still nice). We dumped our stuff and headed out for a quick look around, it didn't take us long at all to fall in love with Verona, what an amazingly beautiful little city. We walked to the Arena, which is a smaller version of the Colleseum, have to admit my heart skipped a little when I saw it, can only imagine it will stop completely when I see the actual colleseum ;) we walked the entire outside of it marvelling at the amazingness of it all and then headed in to the entry of the stadium, WOW, how thrilling to walk in the same steps of so many famous Romans of the past. After that thrilling visit we went for a walk through the streets of Verona and were blown away by the little alleyways and how beautiful they are. We decided to try and find Juliet's balcony. We love Italy and its sign posts for tourists, how easy it is to find your way around :) was nice and quick to get to Juliet's digs, was quiet touching to see all the love graffiti in the tunnel leading up to the actual balcony. Lots of girls getting their photo taken with the statue of Juliet out the front, rubbing/touching her breast for luck of finding a new lover :). I didn't need to as I'm pretty happy with the one I've got :). We headed into the museum/house to have a look around, was nothing special really, a lot of paintings and art works of Romeo and Juliet and the house outfitted to look like it would have in the days of the capulets. Was exciting to stand on the balcony though and I got a kick out of that. It was starting to get dark and cold so we took a leisurely stroll back through the alleyways back to the hotel stopping and browsing through a little market and then stopping at a restaurant that was overlooking the Arena for dinner. I finally got to have my first pizza, I had the anchovie pizza and OMG it was ahmazing, better than I ever could have imagined and Trent also had a pizza (ham and mushroom). The pizzas are huge but because they are thin bases they are very easy to eat. I also had a cocktail (only €3 more than a coke lol) and Trent had a beer, was so nice just relaxing overlooking the ruins. We walked back to the hotel with a sorbet (chocolate and pistachio for me and Trent had hazelnut and mascarpone) we froze all the way back to the hotel eating it but it was worth it lol. Early night for a big day tomorrow again :)
