Today we were up early as we had slept so well so I looked out the front and took some pics before packing up to leave. We skipped breakfast as we were still stuffed from dinner so headed to the bus.
The journey was to take about four hours so we chilled out and enjoyed the view... We drove through miles of hills filled with tea plants and was so beautiful we stopped for pictures along the way. We were heading to a jungle retreat situated within a tiger reserve and as there were only about forty tigers in the reserve... We didn't hold much hope in seeing any. We were told there would be loads of elephants and deer etc but the reserve is massive. We drove through the reserve for ages further and further away from civilisation until we came to a small retreat in the forest. It consisted of numerous huts scattered about with a main building at the top end with a BBQ area and restaurant. There was also a tennis court, badminton court and table tennis room... A the far end there was a couple of tree houses and if you stayed there you had to be escorted back and forth in case of wild elephant.
We had room number one which was situated in the main house and accessed by a spiral stair case... This led up to a veranda and balcony and the door to our room. I was so thankful that we got this room as it was so lovely and bright with amazing views and a small sun terrace... What I saw of the huts wasn't to pleasant.
We had free time for a few hours so unpacked in the room, changed in to something more comfortable and sat on the balcony eating our lunch before playing a very competitive game of badminton. We then headed out to explore a little... We were under strict instruction to stay within the fences of the retreat as we were forbidden from the forest alone ( a French lady tourist was trampled by an elephant a few years back). We went to the river and watched the birds then went back and chilled in our room, I also used this time to wash some clothes and they were now hanging on the balcony.
At four pm we headed out for a jeep safari to hopefully see some elephants... Our last travel companion Henry had finally arrived from Thailand after having visa problems so we were finally all together. There were five to a jeep and it was quite cool to experience. Unfortunately we didn't see any elephants but saw some spotted deer and an eagle, plus it was nice to be out in the bush regardless. We watched a beautiful sunset over the mountains before Heading back for dinner. I was starving by now so after a quick freshen up we headed down for a beer by the open fire and had a chat with Henry. The chef then created a wonderful array of BBQ foods and curry s. There was a yummy vegetable soup for starters before the mains... This was self service and included... Tandoori chicken, lamb curry, dal, paneer curry, fresh vegetables and chapattis. The food was delicious and we it was amazing t sit around the fire and have eat. After dinner we sat around the fire and chatted, me and Vanessa were swapping spider horror stories and after we had thoroughly freaked each other out we retreated to bed... But not till after a cold shower... Lol!
