Our first day in Bangkok was great! First we had to get used to the very friendly and aggressive tuk - tuk drivers. Todd's getting better at not having a conversation with everyone, but his beard is such a magnet for the people here. They keep asking how long it took to grow and want to touch it!
We spent most of the day at a HUGE weekend market. There was everything and anything to buy.
In the late afternoon we took a river tour on a Longboat. We passed by seemingly hundreds of temples. It was also good to see how the Thais really live as we passed through their backyards.
At several points in the day we saw signs of protest activity. On the sky train to the market we could look down to Victory Monument. The are was covered in tents protesters have been living in. After getting off the train a protest line passed by taking up a whole lane of street traffic. We quickly hopped into a tuk - tuk and headed outta there. The dock to the long boat was next to a main bridge connecting greater Bangkok. It was completely shut down. Black tarps had been strung across the whole length to protect the protesters from the sun.
