G'day
Wow what a crazy few days since our last entry. After picking up the van, then it being broken, then picking another one up (bonus it was bigger and newer!!) we finally set off on our adventure after a couple of lovely days at a mega campsite in Spencerville near Christchurch. We headed up the east coast and across to Hanmer Springs. the roads here are amazing it's just green beautifull fields which end with spectacular mountains or a beautifull blue beach, this is what dreams are made of and words can never decsribe. Lets just say we've never been happier or more content.
Hanmer springs was cool, we went to the thermal spa's and soaked in the 40 degree sulphur (smelly egg) pools while it was raining and about 8 degrees outside, we were so high up in the mountains our ears popped driving up and there was snow on the peaks, so pretty. The campsites are fantastic, they have massive kitchens with all ovens, grills and microwaves, big shower blocks, laundry rooms, tv lounges it's perfect.
After a night at Hanmer Springs we headed across to Murchison and a cute little campsite on the buller river where we dined at the Rock Snot Cafe. We were slowly working across to find Mark, Heidi and Neve (Zoe's uncle, aunty and cousin for those of you who don't know) who are up top of south island. After another lovely night we headed on up to Marahau and met up with the other Watsons who were settled in a beatufull camp site in the mountains, near to the Able Tasman, again a spectacular drive. We drove up steep mountains, almost hanging over the edge at times, it was a bit nerve racking (well for Paul anyway as Zoe seemed to think her name was Colin McRae)
The van is great, we have our routine down to a t after only a week, we both drive and both love it, and Daniel i am good and Paul has nothing to be scared of thank-you. Cooking our own food every day is so much fun, it is all so easy and so enjoyable, if it wasn't for all you we honestly would never come home. We had a couple of cold days to start with and even snow on Wednesday but you'll all be pleased to know it is stonking now, were too hot in our shorts and tea shirts and our skin is turning more golden brown by the hour, love it!!!!!!
Were now at Golden Bay at the top of South Island and we've just booked to do the Farewell Spit tour tomorrow (at 7am ouch!!). Were still with Mark, Heidi and Neve and were enjoying their company so much not sure when we'll all part. We've been on lots of amazing walks and Neve is putting us all to shame with her energy levels, Yesterday we climbed a rock face on the edge of mountains to get to a viewpoint near Harwoods Hole and Zoe was slower and more scared.
Thank-you all for your lovely messages, if we had time to personally reply to them all we would. It puts such massive smiles on our faces to hear you all and know your OK.
We miss you all so so much and love you to bits
Pictures will be added as soon as we can
Lots of love to the relevant from Mark, Heidi and Neve, they too are happy, well and fine.
