We will leave Tahoe Vista behind tomorrow after five days of fresh pine sented air. We did not make it all the way to the Rocky Mountains but Lake Tahoe gave us a taste of pine covered hills, jewel boxes to blue saphire lakes. it was a young policeman met in a spa in Santa Cruz who recommanded this place so that the boys could see snow for the first time (mission accompished). Thanks to him we discoved a landscape so pretty, you could just add a glass cup on top and some sparkle to turn it into a snow globe.
It is very special to travel off season in a out of season weather. It should have been cold and drizzly, it is hot and sunny. Summer weather without the crowd, trees exploding quietly in clear green and baby pink, wooden houses blicking in surprise in an energetic spring... it is just magical.
We settled into a routine during our five days stay here. After a hearty breakfast we went for a drive along the crystal waters of the lake, to hike along rivers and creeks, in deep forests and up stony tracks to beaches and waterfalls. Maxim and Callum had sword fights and snow fights (and some car and room fights). We saw cute chipmunks and big bear prints, blue birds flying under canopy of sweet smelling pines and pure landscapes of stone and snow. More, we need more of this, so off we will go to phone, TV and WiFi free Yosemite, Kings canyon and Sequoia Park where we will stay in cabins under the stars. Then it will be from the silent Death valley to the lights of Las Vegas.
