Yesterday was a fairly simple day, and I travelled in the afternoon from Cairns to Mission Beach, about 2 hours South of Cairns. The drive was scenic, taking us through the rainforest mountains. There's not really much here at Mission Beach, but I'm really here for my white water rafting trip today, on the Tully river. I was a bit nervous, not having a clue what to expect, but it turned out to be a fun day and actually not too extreme. The river temp was about 18 degrees which was surprisingly bearable. I didn't fall out of the raft when we negotiated the rapids, although I jumped in a couple of times to freefloat down the river in between rapids. It was like the river rapids at Butlins. The other time I ended up in the river was when one of the guides from another raft came up from behind and unsuspectingly yanked me backwards into the water! It was all good fun though. We also stopped at a large rock and jumped off about 4 meters into the river. It was the highest jump into water I've done yet and it felt the highest too. I certainly felt the g-force on my face on the way down. It felt awesome when I'd done it though, as I'd chickened out of one in Kakadu which was about the same height and then was annoyed with myself for the rest of the day for not doing it. We had photos taken throughout the day, and I bought them as they looked really good. I ate dinner out with 3 people I met at my hostel in Mission Beach, and then we had a movie and popcorn night at the hostel.
