11th June-
Am feeling very ordinary again this morning. Didn't sleep very well due to feeling sick for most of the night. Am not sure what is causing this very up and down health. Maybe after feeling so unwell in Bulgaria my stomach is a bit weak.
We hoped on the bus and drive for 3 and bit hours till we reached Peragmon. Was good to get some sleep on the bus after two nights of such little sleep.
Peragmon is an ancient city dating from the 3rd century BC. They had a large alter dedicated to Zeus. There were some large columns left from the temples and building of the city. In the columns you were able to see where they used melted lead to hold them together. Was also interesting to see that they used to carve two medusa heads into the building as she was a cursed goddess so they believed that two negatives made a positive so hence two head never one. Again there was a large auditorium formed into the side of the city. They also used to bury the dead inside man made hills. You could still evidence of these mounds as you looked out from the high vantage of the city. There was a mighty and large acropolis excavated on the site by a German team. They removed the building stone by stone and it is now in the Berlin museum. Just the foundations remain.
We then were back on the bus and drove to Troy. The drive took a little longer then expected. We arrived at Troy and headed inside to a replica giant wooden horse. Climbed up into the body and head of the horse. Was hot and stuffy inside... Good luck to those men that hide in there before been let into the gates of Troy.
We then walked around the site but there wasn't a lot left. A few ruins have been excavated poorly. You could see the evidence of the walls that had been destroyed and then rebuilt. The walls were built on an angle so that the archers were able to get a clean shot as those below.
We then got on the bus and drove to canakkale. Walked with a group down along the water front to a restaurant ( Cafe du Port). Again was a nice setting on the water front. After dinner walked along the boardwalk, sat and enjoyed the ocean bay and the handsome, walked to another replica giant wooden horse. Headed back to the hotel for an early night as tomorrow is a full day touring around Gallipoli park.
