23rd June 2013 - Up at 5:30am as we took the dingy to Seymour island and them spent an hour walking around. It is such a peaceful place with hundreds of birds including blue bobbies, tijertes, gulls and finches just to mention a few. There are also land iguanas on the island. They were only introduced there in the late 1950 after the building of the airport on the nearby baltra island threatened there existence. Back on the boat for a final pancake breakfast before packing our bags and making the way to airport. I had a 1245 flight but was able to change it to 10:30am which was great rather than spend hours waiting at the airport.
Am able to now think back and reflect on the last 10 days on the Galapagos islands. They have been amazing. Seeing the enormous range of unique animals, plants and environment in such a natural state has been remarkable. Swimming with sea lions, watching a mother feed it's baby chic in the nest, iguanas basking in the sun just meters from me as they have done for thousands of year is something truly magical and needs to be preserved. Not sure if I will ever have the chance to travel back to these special place but having spent time here will never be forgotten.
Flight was an hour late by the time we arrive into Qutio. Was able to share a taxi with a couple other people from my tour into the city. Got a room at the hostel I had stayed at before. Set out for a walk into the old town. As it is late afternoon on a Sunday it is really quiet. Most of the shops are closed. Enjoyed an ice cream Sundae with extra sprinkles because the street vendor thought I was just beautiful. Walked past a couple of the old churches with caved wooden doors. Made it to the Plaza grande and walked around looking at the different colonial style buildings. There was a large rally but wasn't sure what message they were promoting. It was starting to get dark so walked back to the hostel and then just chilled out there.
