17th June - woke early after having a very ordinary sleep inboard. Am not uses to the motion or noise of the boat so woke up serval time. We sailed from San Cristobal Island to San Cruz island overnight. Breakfast at 8:30 and then we made a dry landing on north plaza island. This was a very small island only a couple of square kilometers and we were able to walk around outside of most of the island. Walking from the dingy up the small Pier had to shoo sea lions out of the way. There was also swallow tailed gulls on the small beach with there magnificent red feet. They had young chicks with them all fully and very cute. We walked into the cactus forest and learnt how the cactus here have formed with downward facing spines and smooth trucks to prevent to iguanas from climbing them and eating the succulent leaves they enjoy so much. The yellow land iguanas were present in large number of the island. Many hiding in the shade from the midday sun. Walked along past different lava formation from pillow which is formed when lava erupts underwater to flows from over ground spills. Another sea lion colony was present on the far side. They had a difficult climb down a cliff face To reach the water. After almost two hours walking we headed back to the boat for lunch. Then sailed along the san Cruz island coastline till we reached a small inlet on the Santa fe island. Then put on the wetsuit and headed out for some snorkeling. Along the Rocky edge. saw lots of different colored fish and some marine iguanas in the water. There were large schools of fish feeding on the bottom and even a sea turtle.
Back on board to change an dry off before we took the dingy onto a small beach and made a wet landing. Again sea lions are everywhere. Made our way inland looking for the pale land iguanas and we spotted a couple. They are a light colour and adapted to the different type of rock found on this island. Again there were enormous tree cactus with the bare trunks due to the iguanas eating any of the lower branches.
We then made our way back to the beach and then onto the dingy and back on board. After dinner we sailed to peurto auryeo on Santa cruz island and went on shore for an hour to have a look around the town. Then back on board and bed.
