25th June 2013- enjoyed breakfast at the hostel and catching up on Internet before heading into town to catching the Chebas bus tour. It is a double decker open top bus. We started with a tour around the town... This was interesting as there are many over head wires and lines which were at the same height as the bus so we had to constantly watch our heads to make sure they weren't hit... Some tree branches did make contact with various passengers. We then drove to San Martin canyon. Caught the cable car across the span and then took a zip line back across. Was really fun to fly through the air almost 50 meter up in the air. It took only a minute or so to reach the other side but was an adrenaline rush.
Then back on the bus and we passed the large dam and hydro electricity station. Banos is on the edge of the rain forest jungle and the mountains surround have enormous amounts of both underground water and run off that. This is what creates the powerful rivers and waterfalls in the area. We stopped at casada el silencio for pictures. Then stopped at salto del puente bridge to watch someone bunge jump. No one on our bus was game to try.
The next waterfall, Brides veil we caught another cable car
Down into the valley and then crossed a suspension bridge for a nice view of it from the base. It was originally just one solid stream of water but due to recent dam projects a second smaller waterfall has formed.
Stopped briefly at the casada del duende before making our way to the paking lot of the cascada del diablo. We then walked for 20 or so minutes, across suspension bridges and then down towards the waterfall. It was so loud and powerful and was so great to see as the water raced over the edge and then fell the 100m down. After taking some pictures we then headed back to the bus and drive back into banos just after 3pm. Made my way back to the hostel for some very lunch and then napped before taking a walk around the town and booked the canyoning tour for tomorrow. Back to the hostel for dinner.
