12th June 2013- I think there is a bus at 9:30 am that heads to ipiales so packed up and walked to the bus terminal. Asked a couple different desk but couldn't get a very clear answer of when a bus was going, thanks to my lack of Spanish. Managed to get a bus that was leaving at 9;10am with a good company so hoped on that. It was interesting that they had a bus as yesterday when asked if they had any buses going they said no. The bus travelled for nearly 2 hours before stopping for lunch. We stopped twice within the first 30 minutes of travel to pick up people. I had been warmed that this often happens along this route but after that we didnt stop again to lick up randoms from the side of yhe road. After lunch we traveled for only another 45 minutes before noticing hundreds of trucks stopped on the side of the road, the bus kept driving on past them. We eventually reached the very small town of bordor where the road was closed due to a cycling race. So it was off the bus for nearly 3 hours while they had the race and then opened the road again. Set in the cafe and talked with a couple of my fellow passengers. One speaks basic English and with the help of my Spanish notes we were able to have a basic conversation about where we are from and going and general information about each other. It was fun to watch the cyclists come past us once they were finished as we watched some of the race on tv and then they finished only meters from were we were waiting so watched them cycle past once they were done. Then it wad just another 30 min wait while they cleared to road and then we were on our way again. Been the last bus to arrive we were the first to leave which was a great. Travelled straight though to pasto. They played a DVD about an America that travels to Columbia and the whole bus was looking at me but managed to explain I was Australian. Bus isn't very full anyway maybe 15 people. Travel was on vert windy roads with an average speed of 50 km for most of the travel. I am sitting at the front of the bus again and can see out the front windows. We reached pasto just as the sun set. After a few minutes letting people off the bus and waiting to see if anyone was joining us we set off for ipiales was just 3 off us on the bus. The journey was slow and windey going. I don't think I have travelled on a straight flat road in this country. Was thinking that I might try and cross the boarder tonight but with the delay from the bike race and not wanting to try and figure out my way alone in the dark am going to spend the night in ipiales and cross first thing in the morning.
