After collecting a load from Sheffield and Manchester I had to drive to Holyhead and catch the 0230am ferry to Dublin. I followed on a Carna lorry and later got my cabin key card. I decided to have a bit of a mooch around the ship only to find a crazy old man sleeping in the bed next to me! I gathered up my gear and left. I found a little spec at the rear of the ship, plonked my gear down, concerned that I could be robbed and lay my head down trying to get some sort of rest before getting off the boat.
The noise was unreal considering the time, kids running around with parents that were quite happy to allow them to make as much noise as possible without as long as it wasn't near them. At 6, the captain announced that drivers should make there way to their cabs and get ready to depart!
The driver at the side of me blasted his radio and danced to some ear aching rap, pounding the sides of the ship.
As the doors open, we set off like a whacky races race track. I had no clue where I was going, sat nab failing me I was pursued by other desperate HGV drivers. At the side of me, a driver opens his window 'where you off?' he shouted! 'twoway!!!!' I replied in hope that he could help! 'follow me!'. Racing through Dublin port, I followed this Irish haulier. 20 mins later we arrived at the depot in the middle of no where. I got out of my cab and shook his hand, 'you star, I would never have found this'. He made me a cup of tea, which to be honest I don't like but I didn't want to be rude. We chatted for about half an hour. Good man he was!
