After boarding a Stena Line ferry destined for Holyhead, I walked around to get a feel for it, understand my surroundings and people watch! Typical loud families and stag do's along with fellow hgv drivers that just can't talk about anything other than trucks, loads and motorways that they encounter. Usually loud mouthed cockneys that like to make themselves heard.
I head up to the top deck to an oddly dressed young fella jamming away on a mandolin. Very good indeed. I stood and listened to him until the ferry was released from its shackles and set free to sail the Irish sea.
It fascinates me watching how people behave, children being allowed to wonder freely to roam the decks totally unsupervised.
I decide to retreat to my cabin which fortunately on this occasion is only inhabited by yours truly. I allow myself a shower and clean my teeth before finally texting the love of my life goodnight! Just an hour or 2 sleep would be so welcome. Lying there with the days events and other situations spinning through my head I can't rest! I decide another walk around is called for so I head to the lounge. Usually the place for foot passengers with no cabin to call their bedroom! But on this occasion it's rowdy with a bunch of northern Irish guys who are obviously under the influence of something more than alcohol are trying to restrain a friend of theirs who is acting violently and banging his head against the window. This is provoking on lookers to sneer and take snide video clips on their smart phones which will definitely be uploaded to YouTube in the morning . This is my 3rd ferry trip and the most interesting so far, a real different atmosphere.
So now I sign off and think about the hazards I will come across on my trip around the uk.
Watch this space!
