Our Belgium-Sydney trip
We were really happy to see our family and friends after one year and glad to see that everybody was doing fine! Some things have changed while most things stayed the same. It could be our impression -as we weren't used to commuting in Belgium before- but it seemed that there were more traffic jams while the weather was still the same: the summer in Belgium is like the winter in Perth if you ask me. As for the people: no major character changes, it was more the little things like a few extra wrinkles and less hair here and there, some people gaining a few kilo's others losing over 20 kg, people who bought a house, new couples and fresh marriages, people who got their PhD this year and/or a new job, people that were no longer there (unfortunately) but also new babies and some underway (:)) (well those are big things of course). Although it was fabulous to see everyone back after one year, at the same time it was pretty tiring... By the end of our time in Belgium, we had gained some kilo's: people were offering us lots of food and we went to lots of restaurants (French or should I say Belgian fries, chocolate, pie, north sea shrimps, you name it) and of course had champagne everywhere and a Belgian beer or two :)!
We were happy we could spend our last 4 days in Sydney to loose some kilo's sightseeing (we even did a hike in the blue mountains, awesome!) and get some 'rest' and privacy (finally just the 2 of us again..., *sigh*). Sydney is a nice city but at the same time very busy (everything times 4 compared to Perth, so also the traffic jams, noise, the beggars, rushed and reserved people etc) and although it is a lively city with lots of opportunities I'm sure, we were happy to come back to little old Perth that seemed like a small town if you compared the skyline with that of Sydney ;) but one without traffic jams and with mostly friendly people and better weather. Yes -writing this on my laptop in the sun while Olivier is weeding the garden- we are happy to be back for at least another year!
