It has been a while since I have written so I figured I would take a couple minutes to update everyone. I have been real busy the last week and a half and done so much!! I went to the National Portrait Gallery where all the famous portraits are...(Elizabeth I, Henry VIII, Robert Boyle, William Pitt, Thomas Paine, even George Washington!!) I also have been to the National Gallery where famous paintings are...(Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet) It's so neat to see the actual things I have read about all these years in school. Yesterday I went on a tour of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and a walking tour of Southwark. Today we went to Westminster Abbey, and the Tower of London. At Westminster I saw the graves of many famous people as well...(Elizabeth I, Charles Fox, William Wilberforce, Thomas Clarkson, Issac Newton, & Handel) Today at the Tower we saw the actual crown jewels (which were amazing...I don't know how in the world one family can have so much!) the famous 'Traitor's Gate' where Anne Boleyn was taken to be executed by Henry VIII. The Tower itself is in 3 parts, the oldest dating back to the 11th Century!!! What's amazing is how much is actually left and in good condition. Most of the old construction around here, and the new as well, has no metal nails, only wooden pegs. Apparently the rust from the nails rots the wood so the pegs help the structure last longer. (I thought that was pretty neat) Also at the Tower (look at the pictures when I post them) you will see round and cross cut outs on the outside walls. The round ones are for guns to poke thru and the crosses are for bow & arrows!! The stairs are also designed in a steep spiral going up and to the right so that the person on the inside coming down has the upper hand over someone coming up from the outside. ANYWAY, keep looking for pictures as I will be uploading a lot in the next couple of days. I have also been to see Hairspray and Twelfth Night (both were amazing) and on Monday we are going to see STOMP and Tuesday we are going to see King Lear!! I love being near all the theatres!! It's so much fun! Anyway, I will go try to upload some pictures and videos so check both! Love and miss everyone! Talk to you later!
