Can't even explain how tired I was when I got to my accomodation! I was the only non-Chinese person on the whole plane to Zhuhai - very strange experience - but it was nice. I had a conversation with a sweet guy sat next to me via his exceptionally patient who translated for us - he invited me to teach his son English and gave me his number and email address, etc., which was pretty cute! His friend called me 'beautiful English girl', which prompted another person to sit up and look at me and then gesture to their friend who looked at me in complete awe. Before I knew it half the plane was staring at me smiling and babbling in Chinese - a taste of things to come?
After the flight I was picked up from the airport by Freya, the OC from AIESEC SYSU who interviewed me before choosing me for the AIESEC project that I am on, as well as two other 'Buddies' (Chinese students that assist us on the project and help us with basically everything). One of the buddies brought me some biscuits for the journey home and I've never been so glad to eat such dry biscuits!!! The food on the airport was a ham sandwich and my flight to Zhuhai was delayed so I hadnt ate in hoooours so was so thankful!!
I'm living in a small apartment with other trainees; two girls from Morocco and Germany and a guy from Turkey. Everyone is so friendly! The apartment is fine, the only shock I had was that the toilet, which is just basically a hole in the floor, is also the shower!!
The first shock I had during the day after kind of recovering from jet lag (totally not at all) was that after raining so hard in the morning, the day was SO HOT. Had my first Chinese meal of three different vegetable dishes and a rice each shared between my German housemate, Hannah, and another Chinese OC called Christine - it was actually surprisingly good! Then had to go to the police station to sort out my residence permit, the biggest faff ever -.- but later that night we went to a more lively area nearby and had Pizza Hut haha very Chinese.
So far everything has been great - the food is much better than I thought it would be as there is always someone around to help me choose something and order for me, actually really liked everything. Met so many people I can barely keep up with it, considering making a list of names ha! So all is well, everyone is so lovely - I may never come home! ;)
