I am in the south island now and it is beautiful! The scenery is amazing with snowy mountains and glacial lakes. In the north of the island we stayed in Nelson and visited the Abel Tasmin National Park which is thought to be the country's most amazing park. We were really lucky with the weather and so the beaches looked amazing. There were several seal colonies aroound the coast which were really cool to see and we did a day trek through the forest to see the park which was great. From Nelson we went to Kaikora were I went on a whale watching trip, there were several sperm whales around, some quite close which was great, lots of dusky dolphins and seals, very cute!
Yesterday I went for a glacier hike on the Fox glacier which was so brilliant. A group of us were meant to be doing a Helihike to the top caves of the glacier but unfortunately the weather was rubbish so we did a half day hike which was still great. We donned our crampons and walked through the top surface of the glacier which had loads of valley like shapes in to walk through and see the blue ice inside the glacier.
Now we are in Queenstown and it is snowing! This is meant to be the adrenaline capital of New Zealand but we have been sipping Chai lattes in the cafe to keep warm! Its is a really nice town though and hopefully we can do more tomorrow....
