Another early rise today, heading to Saigon.
When walking to the bus station we stumbled upon a street stall selling Bahn Mi; a French style baguette filled with Vietnamese flavours.
We had heard about them but were yet to try one.
The filling is normally pork meat and a kind of pâté but we had been told not to ask what the filling actually is :-/! They fill it out with salad, chillies, soy sauce, chilli sauce, meat and coriander. It certainly opens up your taste buds!! A little more flavour than just corn flakes for breakfast! 2 baguettes, 2 drinks = $2!
The bus journey was good. We were in Saigon before we knew it. Back into the hustle and bustle of a city; hot, loud and manic!
When we arrived, iced coffees and food was way more important to locate before finding our 'digs' for the night.
Our pad, and it was a city pad, was on the top (6th) floor of a small hotel. The whole floor was our room!!! Equipt with a large bed built into a concrete surround, a raised platform with a massive desk, and huge folding windows to the skyline of Saigon.
While looking at hotels we bumped into Pierre, an Italian guy who we met on Phu Quoc Island 4 days ago! We arranged to meet later for some beers!
Once settled in we did a little book shopping, and general tat-shopping, and more food hopping. This led us from afternoon to evening when we then met up with Pierre for bevs. Shopping wise, we ended up with a new book, of which we traded in 2 read books for, and a set of bamboo Vietnamese serving bowls.
Beers were crushed and stories were exchanged throughout the rest of the night.
By the time we got into bed, the heavens had opened and it was tropical downpours for the entire night!
