We got back to Tokyo on Friday afternoon at about 4.00pm and Helen took us to a local spa in an area with natural hot springs. We managed to keep our bikinis on and no one noticed... even though Helen said it was imperative that we strip to our birthday suits to shower! It was a really nice place though and absolutely massive! There were even rooms where people could go and have a sleep! They gave us pyjama type outfits to wear when we were not in the hot springs and we explored every nook and cranny of the building! Still in our pyjamas, Helen took us for a meal at one of the restaurants at the spa. It was very delicious and the spa was a nice way to end a day of train journeys!
During the day on Saturday we took the train to Harajuku where we met Koo again. She showed us around the main streets, which were extremely busy, and to the park where there are supposed to be the Harajuku girls. However, there were only three there! And one of them kept turning away when you tried to take her picture! We went for a marvellous Italian meal, (good old pizza and pasta!) and then had a crepe filled with chocolate, cream, ice cream, banana and even a slice of cheesecake in the middle! They made us feel very, very sick and we regretted eating them after... we have over-indulged so much already on this trip and we never learn our lesson! Koo also took us to this crazy place filled with about 50 photo booths... but there were no ordinary photo booths! You could edit your pictures after and add writing to them and do different effects with them! It was bloody fantastic, but so hectic as each individual booth had extremely loud music blaring out of them!
Then came Saturday night! Helen saves the day again by finding a friend of a friend's uncle's sister's dog's friend's mother's auntie's child to take us out on the razzle dazzle and experience the Japanese nightlife in true Tokyo crazy style! We arranged to meet him at a statue near Shibuya station, however when we arrived there were about 5 million Japanese boys standing on their own and searching around as though looking for someone! We spotted one boy who looked like a possible candidate... biggest geek you have ever seen! He kept wandering around near us and looking at us suspiciously. Thankfully a cool boy came up to us and asked if we were the girls staying with Helen. His name was Takeru and he spoke absolutely perfect English but with an American accent and he was your typical 'gangsta' boy... baggy jeans, puffy jacket and a cap! But we knew from the word go that we would have a brilliant night!
Takeru took us to our second Korean barbeque with two of his equally as lovely friends and it was just as nice as the first time! Nyima and Laura tried the cow tongue this time and we all ate some cold raw beef! Yum! We also found our new favourite tipple... it goes by the name of Campari and is totally lethal as it just tastes of juice so you dont really notice you are drinking alcohol! But we have decided it will be the drink of our trip!
After the meal we met 2 more of Takeru's friends, one who studies in London (still in his first year after failing it three times!) and has an even posher accent than the Princes of England! We then headed to a Japanese style karaoke bar and it was awesome! To anyone who has not heard of one or been to one it is nothing like the English karaoke where the drunkest man stands up in front of a crowded room and makes a complete arse out of himself! We were given a private room with all the karaoke equipment in and it cost 1000 Yen (about 4 pounds) each an hour and you could have unlimited alcohol! Perfect! We sang the classics... S Club 7 'Reach', Oasis 'Don't Look Back In Anger' and GreenDay 'Basketcase' as well as some non-classics like The Libertines 'Can't Stand Me Now' and we finished off with an absolute belter... 'Chop Suey!' by System of a Down. Needless to say our voices were slightly more croaky than they were before!
After this we were taken to a club called 'GasPanic' and we got asked for ID (the legal drinking age in Japan is 20)! What a cheek! Luckily we charmed our way in! And for any of you who ever went to Niche and miss it terribly... GasPanic is the place to go for a replacement! The ceilings were incredibly low and poor Laura left with a few bruises on her head! She also made 'friends' with a Japanese girl.... they spent most of the evening dancing together but more in a dance battle style event type of thing! Obviously Laura triumphed whilst the latter failed miserably! Haha! Their relationship was touch-and-go but the boys we were with had bets on them leaving together! All in all is was a fantastic night and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
We left Japan on Sunday and flew to Singapore and we will update you on the immense heat here shortly! Bye for now! xxx
