We arrived in Cusco at around 3pm, everyone starving by this point! The city is 3395m above sea level so we were warned that altitude sickness might kick in and we were aiming to acclimatise before our trek to Machu Picchu. We went to a restaurant called Jack's which we all welcomed as it was English food and served huge portions! We had a wander around the city which is really beautiful, with the main plaza surrounded by mountains and scattered with villages which look really pretty at night when they're lit up. We stayed in yet another luxury hotel which we won't take for granted as it'll be hostels after this two week trip!
We visited Saqsaywaman, an Inca site which took 50 years and 20,000 people working all day to build. They used trees covered in llama fat to move rocks (as they had no wheels!) and llamas to transport goods.
