The sleeper to Krakow was quite small and cramped, but fun anyway and I actually got a half decent sleep. Arrive pretty early (6.30) and go to hostel to dump bags before a wander around and some breakfast. Do the walking tour, which isn't as interesting as the Prague one but still pretty good and we end up in a castle that's a bit better than the Prague one. Supermarket lunch and then chill in the hostel in the afternoon before cooking supper and having another wander round before bed. The next day, we get up early and get a minibus to see Auschwitz (near Oswiecim) Very worth the visit, we visited 2 of the 3 Auschwitz sites. Auschwitz 1 was very well preserved and all the buildings had had their insides restored except the last one, which was still as it had been. Mainly buildings and a small gas chamber, was rather grim with some horrible conditions. Auschwitz 2 - Birkenau is bigger and largely just ruins, but much more haunting. You get a real sense of numbers here and you can still see the gas chambers even though the SS tried to blow them up to remove the evidence. Met Millie and Steph from Leicester who were nice and recommended us another bar crawl. We head back and after frankfurter pasta we meet for the bar crawl. We're slightly more reserved in the first bar in this one, but me and James win a boat race drinking competition and win free t shirts. Get talking to a nice girl from Australia called Kate, who's moving to Nottingham. Go through several underground karaoke bars before going to an underground club which is cool. Lose the others and walk Kate home before heading back to the hostel, where I find out Rob has managed to smash the hob by sitting in it. The next morning we pay for the hob and check out. We then rent out bikes and head over to Schindlers factory to see the museum there, which is very long and mostly just about life in Krakow during the war. We then return the bikes and look at the Bazaar in the marketplace and the church until dinner. Go to a very bad self service place (makes you pay for the toilet), collect bags and then head to the station.
