For those of you who I didn't get to tell, I am spending 3 months in India working at an infectious disease hospital, and I just finished my first week! It was very last minute, so I apologize if I just disappeared on some of you. Anyways, this is my first of hopefully several updates to keep all of you guys updated on my life (because I am sure you all care so much).
This past week has been pretty crazy. I came here last Thursday, spent a whirlwind few days seeing family and trying to get over jet lag, and I've been at the hospital since Monday. While the first couple of days were pretty boring, filled with lectures about diseases, today was the first day I actually got to do/see some serious stuff. I saw a patient with XDR Tuberculosis (a TB resistant to all first-line antibiotics), a one-year old child dying of a ridiculous pneumonia (he's getting better though now), multiple malaria cases, and a girl w/ PCOD. I got to auscultate lung sounds (btw - tb sounds gross), give medications, talk to patients - it's been awesome.
I hope all is well with you guys, whether in school, working, or doing something else all together. Please keep in touch, and I promise, any emails will get a personal response. While I'm not off saving lives (or listening to doctors telling me how to save lives), my days are pretty free, so I'd love to hear from you all. Speak to you all soon.
