Saturday 11th June - Avoided Portsmouth centre due to today being Market Place Day (with the spoken emphasis very much on the 'place') with all roads shut. Headed instead towards the White Mountains via an amazing circumnavigation of the UK - including Dover, Rochester, Durham, Newbury, Manchester and many more.
Wolfboro (pronounced Wolfborrow with the emphasis on the very last syllable) claims to be the oldest American holiday destination and is a quintessential New England clapperboard town that you don't really believes exists outside of UK outlet villages. Beautifully set on the edge of lake Winnipesaukee (which sounds like a cross between a large US RV and a Japanese motorbike to me - a sort of two wheeled bungalow perhaps?), it must be really beautiful if the rain ever stops!
Inn at Jackson is a gloriously restored 1902 'cottage' designed by America's second most famous architect (not saying much I know...) Stanford White.
Phrase of the day: "you still workin?" Translation: is that all your going to eat of that dinner?
