15/12/12 (Saturday)
We caught a taxi this morning to Union Station ready for our train ride to New York City. When we checked in we found out that checked baggage goes on a later train so we had to take our bags on the train with us. Luckily we managed to get our bags into the oversized shelves at the end of the carriage (they only have room for 3 bags). We had a great train ride. There were a family from Logan in our carriage and 2 of their boys sat in the seat behind us so we had a chat from time to time during the trip. It took us about 3 ½ hrs to get to Penn Station in New York City. What an experience that was. There were people everywhere. You were flat out getting through the crowd with the bag and most of the escalators weren't working - great!!!! We then had the experience of trying to get a taxi! This is definitely not a hospitable town when it comes to taxis and taxi drivers don't give a s#@t either. So long as they get a fare. One driver opened the boot for us to put our bags in and someone else just jumped into the seat and so they took off! We ended up having to walk all the way up to Macy's before we could get a taxi that didn't have someone in and then he didn't want to take us because "he wasn't going that way". There was an off duty taxi parked and I spoke to the driver and he agreed to take us when he finished his break - finally!!!!! We loaded our bags in (no help from drivers in this city) and he dropped us at the corner of our street as every street is one way and we were at the wrong end to be able to drive to our hotel but it was only a short walk and we finally made it to our hotel. Metro Apartments. They are also self contained apartments the same as we had in Washington DC but not quite as nice when it comes to cosmetics or size. They are studio apartments so no separate bedroom. Unfortunately we got a room that backs onto the motorway but we're only here for the one night so we'll survive. We then went for a walk up to Time Square. OMG there are literally thousands of people everywhere. You basically just have to go with the crowd. It was unbelievable. There is a charity event on also where college/uni students meet at a central point and donate a toy to charity and give a donation in return for something that allows them cheaper drinks to do a pub crawl around New York City. Needless to say there were some pretty drunk people around the place but because there were so many people around it was ok. We saw the famous signage and the tower with the ball on top. It gets raised before New Year's and dropped at midnight which is what we came to the east coast to see. We spent a couple of hours walking around before heading back to our apartment which is on W 41st street and an easy walk to Time Square. It's not the fanciest part of town but I'm sure there are far worse. We had dinner at the Theatre Row Diner which is just around the corner from our hotel and that was nice to just sit down and experience. We got back to our room and into bed around 9pm and of course Danielle dropped off to sleep instantly but I had a very restless night with the traffic although it must have quietened down for awhile (either that or I was just sooooo tired) because I slept continuously from around 11.30p to 3.30pm. Why do they have to sit and parp their horns all the time? I fail to see what it achieves. They don't get through the traffic any quicker………….. ggrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
15/12/12 (Sunday)
We got up around 7.30am - not because we've had enough sleep but because the traffic had started again even though it's Sunday morning. We're just enjoying lazying around our room and it's given me time to get this blog and photos updated before we head out to leave on our cruise to the Bahamas today. We have to be out of our room by 11am so will head over to the ship where we can start boarding at 1pm but we're getting used to sitting around and waiting for planes and trains so now we can add ships to that list also J It's overcast and wind today and they have forecast rain for most of this week so not sure what the weather will be like for our cruise but we'll make the most of it all anyway. I'm not sure if I will be able to post a blog or photos while I'm on the cruise but will try. If not, We'll get it all off to you as soon as we get back to New York on 24/12. We hope everyone has a great lead up to Christmas and we'll be in touch again soon. Lots of love to everyone!!!!!!!!

Jane I wanna be with you 2. Have a great cruise. Can't wait to hear all about it . Love me. Xx
Steph & Tim NY sounds incredible! I think far too many people and too much traffic for Tim and I to enjoy - although i'm sure your having the experience of a lifetime! Not a great deal happening back home, we've started the traditional sweltering summer days followed by evening storms. Needless to say we are really making the most of the pool at you place :) Love to you both and see you in 13 days!
